THE PROBLEM

The advent of new media-driven communication and the need to constantly communicate in the midst of other very important daily tasks has done more harm than good to effective use of the English language in communication in this 21st century. Informal and inappropriate abbreviations have taken over the place of the correct use of the English language in daily communication especially amongst young people in our generation. Unfortunately, this ugly trend has quietly crept into the use of English Language in formal communications resulting in unpardonable mistakes in writing communication leaving one to wonder what will become of letters, memos and literature as written media of communication few years to come. We submit that if this alarming trend is allowed to continue, all effective forms of written communication will become extinct few years down the line.

Bee Objectives

As a result of the malaise that has plagued our educational system and our national life by extension, the Education Plus Support Foundation has designed this imposing national competition whose organisation, content and activities will revolutionize the mentality of the average Nigerian student and introduce an effective merit and reward system while achieving the following fringe objectives:

  • Restore the lost culture of competitions and competitiveness in the fabric of our academic life.
  • Bridge the gap between spoken and written English.
  • Bring back the culture of hard work, merit and effective reward systems.
  • Restore the value placed on academic achievements in our country.
  • Encourage Nigerian pupils and the society at large to improve the art of spelling, enlarge their vocabularies and widen their knowledge of the English language.

The need we have identified

Back in the day, reading was an art that was paramount in our education system, it was identified as the major way by which knowledge can be transferred and acquired. Little wonder those generations past have produced the best and the greatest scholars and technocrats of our time.

The educational sector therefore begs a strong intervention from a system that can restore this lost art of reading and deliver our educational system from implosion, hence The Education Plus' Book Recycling Project.

The objectives

As a result of the malaise that has plagued our educational system and our national life by extension, the Education Plus Support Foundation has designed this imposing national competition whose organisation, content and activities will revolutionize the mentality of the average Nigerian student and introduce an effective merit and reward system while achieving the following fringe objectives:

  • Stamp out illiteracy
  • Increase the intelligence quotient of young kids in our society
  • Promote and restore the reading culture in our educational system
  • Inspire community inclusion/support in educational development
  • Get our nation reading again.

The Project

Education Plus Support Foundation has undertaken to build and set up functional libraries for all the local government of five states in Nigeria, starting with Rivers State. One community primary and one community secondary school in every local government will be set up to cater for the reading needs of communities especially the indigent children who are more ignored in the scheme of development To implement this Project, we will be employing the good will of the whole target community and beyond. We will be needing your old books, new books, shelves, multimedia, air conditioners, chairs, tables, fans, money (any amount you an afford)
